Alfa Chemistry Catalysts Offers Phase Transfer Catalysts for Organic Synthesis

Alfa Chemistry Catalysts announced that now hundreds of phase transfer catalysts are available for customers worldwide, including ammonium salts, phosphonium salts, and other phase-transfer catalysts.

New York, USA – July 22, 2020 – Earlier this month in July, 2020, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts, a specialized branch of the world’s leading chemical supplier Alfa Chemistry, announced that now hundreds of phase transfer catalysts are available for customers worldwide, including ammonium salts, phosphonium salts, and other phase-transfer catalysts.

Phase-transfer catalysis (PTC) is a powerful tool in many areas of chemistry. In cases where the reactants cannot easily come together, a “phase-transfer agent” is needed so as to transfer one of the reagents to a location where it can conveniently and rapidly react with another reagent.

“Besides the main function of facilitating movement of a reactant from one phase to another, phase transfer catalysts also have some other benefits,” says a senior scientist from Alfa Chemistry Catalysts. “For example, PTC can accelerate the reaction rate, lower the reaction temperature, improve product yield or simplify synthesis operation.”

In addition to ammonium salts, phosphonium salts, the phase transfer catalysts offered by Alfa Chemistry Catalysts can also be grouped as polyether, cyclic crown ethers, quaternary ammonium salts, tertiary amine, and quaternary ammonium base. These transfer catalysts could be applied in the following scenarios, including but not limited to:

Addition reaction: Addition reaction occurs when two or more reactants combine to form a product without the loss of any atoms present in the reactants. Under phase transfer conditions, olefin and hydrohalic acid aqueous solutions are easily carried out according to Markov’s law.

Eliminate the reaction: The reaction of removing two molecules of hydrogen halide to form an alkyne by a vicinal or homo-dihalogen is generally carried out in two steps. However, if the phase transfer catalyst (C8H17)4NBr is used, the reaction is completed in one step.
