Comedian James Acaster Accidentally Invests in Comedy Streaming Service NextUp

London, UK – Online comedy streaming service NextUp, at www.nextupcomedy.com, has recently received a surprise investment from the British comedian James Acaster. Acaster became an investor in the start-up business by mistake, thinking he was investing in the global company Netflix. He was surprised to learn that he had actually bought shares in the similarly-named company NextUp.

Like Netflix, NextUp is an online video streaming service, but is focused purely on the comedy industry. NextUp’s aim is to deliver comedy stand-up specials to the masses, offering over 150 shows. It can be downloaded on all major platforms, including Chromecast, web, Apple TV, Android, and iOS.

On the comedy circuit, Acaster is known for his tales of the embarrassing situations he’s ended up in. He has even written an autobiographical book on these situations, referring to them as ‘classic scrapes’. On the matter of his accidental investment, Acaster said ‘as a comedian lucky enough to have a few stand-up specials of my own on Netflix – I thought it was only right that I support them and pledge a tenner to their campaign… Did I think it was weird that one of the world’s biggest companies was crowdfunding? Sure – but I also wasn’t paying attention as I was eating a delicious toastie’.

It turned out to be somewhat of a happy coincidence for this comedian to invest in a company that aims to be the home of live comedy, and also offers support and funding to emerging artists in the industry. As Acaster said, ‘Luckily for me, having looked at NextUp it turns out they’re not the daylight robbers I first imagined them to be. They support the comedy world and stream an incredible range of stand-up on there. Turns out I did know what I was doing – watch out investment world – there’s a new big dog in town…and he’s bringing his Russell Hobbs toastie maker’.

NextUp’s CEO, Daniel Berg, has spoken about the company’s latest investor: ‘It’s great to have such an incredible comic as an investor…even if it was by accident. Cheers James (love your work), and thanks to everyone else who has come on board…intentionally or not’.
